Frequently Asked Questions

A dual-purpose bird is a type of poultry bird that is raised for both meat and eggs. This is unlike broilers that are raised for only meat and layers that are raised for just egg production.

The Noiler bird is truly unique, offering a dual-purpose bird that stands out in several ways. Here are what sets Noiler apart from other African chicken breeds:

High Egg Production: Noiler birds lay 4 times more eggs compared to other local African breeds, making it an excellent choice for home rearing to raise eggs for the family and the excess sold to bring in income.

Faster Growth Rate: The Noiler bird grows at least 3 times faster compared to other local African breeds, shortening the time it takes for rearing and providing quicker returns on investment.

Weather Resilience: Noiler birds can withstand different weather conditions, making it a suitable option for free-range and back-yard rearing.

Predator Resistance: The Noiler bird is known for its ability to ward off predators, ensuring that the birds are safe and healthy.

Unique Meat Flavor: The Noiler meat is tougher than broilers, making it suitable for use in recipes that require meat that can hold up well in stews and soups. Additionally, Noiler meat has a distinct and delicious flavor that sets it apart from other chicken breeds.

Although all fertilized bird eggs have the potential to hatch, Noiler birds have been genetically improved over many years. It is therefore best to always raise stock that comes from Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd. Noiler birds have been bred to be less broody and fertile, resulting in very poor hatchability. Therefore, it is never justified to use our Noiler commercial stock as breeder stock. The growth, survivability, mortality, and egg production of any bird that mistakenly results from breeding Noiler commercial stock would be so poor that it is not worth the effort.
The feed conversion ratio (FCR) for Noiler birds to achieve 1 kg is around 2.2. This means that it takes 2.2 kg of feed to produce 1 kg of chicken meat. However, Noiler birds are not raised solely for meat purpose but are dual-purpose birds, so it is more economical to allow Noiler birds start scavenging for food from 5 weeks and also feed them farm and kitchen waste.
The best way to ensure you are getting original Noiler birds is to buy day-old chicks directly from Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd. or 5-week-old birds from one of our registered Mother Units. You can also contact us directly on 0700 6000 600 or the nearest Farmer Satisfaction Representative to confirm this information.
You can expect Noiler female birds to start laying eggs at around 20-22 weeks of age.

Noiler chicks should not be mixed with other breeds of birds, such as broilers and layers. However, they can be kept in the same house in a separate room.
